Hazels Motorschool are proud to announce that one of our instructors Jude Smith, has the prestige of being the first Wirral driving instructor to guide a pupil through "Engage" which is a safety initiative for learner drivers supported by the police, fire service and Wirral Borough Council.

The aim of "Engage" is to cut road deaths by teaching pupils additional driving skills such as how to avoid being distracted, the dangers of fatigue, speeding, alcohol & drugs and the importance of wearing a seatbelt. The scheme was launched in May this year when 80 driving instructors, including those from Hazels Motorschool, were given specialist training by Merseyside Road Safety Partnership.

As well as in-car discussions between instructor and pupil about the new topics, students are also given homework and can go to extra workshops held by road safety experts. Parents are also encouraged to get involved in the learning process.

Hazels Motorschool is pleased to participate in and support a new scheme aimed at improving road safety for learner drivers.

As reported in local newspapers recently, ENGAGE is a groundbreaking initiative launched by the Merseyside road safety partnership – a collaboration between Merseyside Police, five local authorities and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

Hazels Motorschool Driving Instructors were part of a group of one hundred Driving Instructors to have received specialist training to help new drivers identify and deal with e.g. distraction, influence of others, fatigue, speed, drink, drugs medication and seat belts – all factors which Merseyside Police say contribute to the number of people killed and injured on the road every year.

Merseyside Roads Policing Department has played a key role in the launch of the initiative and along with Road Safety Officers will be holding evening workshops involving novice drivers and their parents and guardians.

We are delighted to welcome back to Hazels Motorschool John Davies who has spent the last 9 months working in and around the Liverpool area gaining knowledge and experience at other Driving Test Centres across Merseyside.
