About Hazels Motorschool
HAZELS MOTORSCHOOL was established as a Wirral Driving School in and around the Wallasey area by Hazel Oldfield and her brother in 1982. Hazel successfully taught many new drivers and their family members whilst operating as an independent Driving Instructor in a very competitive market.
Taking early semi-retirement in 2007, Hazel handed over the reins to Thea Copple, having laid the foundations for the business to go from strength to strength. Today, ‘HAZELS’ as it is affectionately known, boasts a team of dedicated professionals. Thea, Alan, Debbie, John and Jude are all trained in modern day instructional techniques and regularly update their knowledge and skills by investing time and money in additional training and development.
In November 2010, due to popular demand, the team was delighted to welcome Hazel back into the fold, and she is now available to teach AUTOMATIC lessons in a Mercedes 'A' class car.
HAZELS MOTORSCHOOL has only fully qualified male and female Driving Instructors, known as Approved Driving Instructors (ADI's) who are approved by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) to teach learner drivers for payment.
An ADI must:
- Have held a full driving licence for at least 4 yrs prior to training.
- Pass a strict Theory and Driving test.
- Pass a rigid test of their Instructional Ability.
- Obtain a Criminal Records Bureau government check certificate.
- Achieve and maintain a high level of instruction.
- Be registered with the DSA and be available at regular intervals for assessment.
- Display a green ADI badge on the windscreen at all times when teaching.
Some Driving Schools may choose to use Potential Driving Instructors (PDI’s) who have not yet completed their training; these Instructors will display a Pink Badge (below left) in the windscreen of their car rather than the Green Badge shown below on the right, that our fully qualified Driving Instructors will display in theirs.

Take into account the comments above; ask friends and relatives; choose one who has a good reputation; is reliable and punctual; whose car suits you, and above all, that the Instructor suits you.
